How the Application Process Works
Step 1: Submit Your Application
Complete the programme application form and provide:
- A copy of your valid passport
- Proof of current study or recent graduation, where applicable
- A brief statement explaining why you wish to join
- Your English-language level
- Any dietary, medical or accessibility requirements
Step 2: Initial Assessment
Applicants may be invited to a short online conversation to discuss their objectives, communication level and programme expectations.
Step 3: Offer and Payment
Successful applicants receive a programme offer containing the fee, payment schedule, cancellation terms and participation conditions.
Step 4: Visa Support Documents
After the required payment and verification, eligible participants may receive:
- Programme acceptance or invitation letter
- Fee-payment confirmation
- Accommodation confirmation, where booked through the organiser
- Provisional programme itinerary
- Organiser’s contact and programme details
These documents support the participant’s application but do not guarantee a visa or admission to the United Kingdom. Only UK Visas and Immigration and UK Border Force can make immigration and entry decisions.
Accommodation and Meals
Participants may stay in comfortable shared accommodation in Cambridge and London. Single-room accommodation may be available for an additional fee and is subject to availability.

UK Entry Process for International Students
The correct immigration route depends on the participant’s nationality, passport, programme activities and length of stay. Every participant should first use the official UK Government visa checker.
For a short Study Tour lasting no more than six months, participants who require a visa will normally apply under the Standard Visitor route, provided their proposed activities are permitted under that route. Short study at an accredited institution can be undertaken for up to six months as a visitor. Read the official study-visit rules.
Simplest Application Process for Visa Nationals
- Check the correct route
Confirm through GOV.UK that you require a Standard Visitor visa and that all intended programme activities are permitted. - Receive your programme documents
Obtain your acceptance letter, fee receipt, itinerary and accommodation information from the organiser. - Prepare clear financial evidence
Show that you can genuinely afford the programme, accommodation, daily expenses and return journey without working or relying on public funds. - Provide evidence of your student status and home-country ties
This may include an enrolment letter, student identification, approved leave from your institution, family commitments or other evidence explaining why you will return after the tour. - Complete the official online application
Apply only through the GOV.UK Standard Visitor visa service. Applications can usually be submitted up to three months before travel. - Book and attend the required identity or biometric appointment
Follow the instructions issued during the online application process and submit the required documents. - Wait for the decision before making non-refundable arrangements
Standard Visitor visa decisions made outside the UK are usually issued within approximately three weeks after the applicant has applied, proved their identity and supplied the documents, although cases can take longer.
Recommended Supporting Documents
Depending on personal circumstances, applicants may provide:
- Valid passport

- University or college enrolment letter
- Permission or leave letter from the current institution
- Personal or sponsor bank statements
- Sponsor’s letter and evidence of relationship, if sponsored

- Certified translations of documents not written in English or Welsh
Applicants should provide genuine, consistent and verifiable information. Large unexplained deposits, conflicting dates or documents that do not match the application can create concerns.
UK Entry Process for EU, EEA and Swiss Students
Most EU, EEA and Swiss citizens can visit the UK for up to six months without obtaining a Standard Visitor visa, including for permitted short-term study. However, they normally require an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) before travelling unless an exemption applies.
Easiest ETA Process
- Check the official UK visa and ETA checker.
- Apply using the official UK ETA app or the GOV.UK ETA service.
- Use the same passport that you will use to travel.
- Provide the required passport and facial photograph.
- Pay the official application fee.
- Wait for the confirmation email before travelling.
An ETA currently costs £20. Decisions are usually sent within one day but can take up to three working days. The ETA is digitally linked to the passport and generally remains valid for two years or until that passport expires, whichever comes first. EU, EEA and Swiss participants should normally travel with a valid passport. A national identity card is accepted only in limited circumstances specified by the UK Government. Participants who hold UK immigration permission, an eVisa, settled or pre-settled status, or another exempt status should check the rules applicable to them before applying for an ETA.
Important Immigration Notice
- An invitation letter is not a visa.
- Acceptance onto the programme does not guarantee immigration approval.
- The organiser cannot influence a UKVI decision.
- Participants are responsible for submitting accurate applications on time.
- Visa and ETA fees are normally paid directly to the UK Government and may be non-refundable.
- Participants should not book non-refundable flights until they have received the required permission to travel.
- Immigration requirements and fees can change. Always confirm the latest rules on GOV.UK before applying.
- Anyone with a previous visa refusal, immigration breach, criminal record or complicated personal circumstances should consider obtaining advice from a UK-regulated immigration adviser.
